Every Sunday at 10 am, all ages are invited to participate in a variety of formation offerings. Feel free to attend the same class all semester or hop between the classes! Everyone is welcome to participate, whether you consider yourself an expert or an amateur. Reach out to Kathleen Franklin with questions. Some of our offerings include:
Discuss all the things! This group is designed for parishioners between the ages of 20-40 (ish)–we won’t ID you! Each week facilitators will lead a conversation around a topic that is especially significant to people in the life stage of building a career, creating a family, and raising children. This is a discussion-based class that prioritizes sharing and connecting over knowing all the answers.
Learn more about a particular book of the Bible or follow along with the lectionary selections for the upcoming Sunday.
Offered in the fall, this class prepares adults for the rite of confirmation. Learn more about the Episcopal Church, sacraments, the prayer book, and doctrine in this course led by clergy and special presenters.
This is a forum-style offering held in Randall Hall where we feature a different topic every week! Guest speakers will lead the forum.
We have a variety of small groups that anyone is welcome to join. Groups meet about once a month, and you are welcome to come to bounce between groups. Some of our offerings include a new moms group, a working moms group, a hunter’s guild (for men who enjoy the outdoors), the “Between the Lines” book club, and “Out of the Nest,” a group for parents of young adults. Contact Kathleen Franklin to learn more.
During Lent and other seasons of the church year, we offer weekday programs and special services. Past offerings have included everything from an Enneagram workshop to a lectionary-based Bible study to a Holy Boocharist.
Cursillo is an opportunity to grow in faith and in spirituality. Cursillo in the Diocese of Alabama begins with a three–day weekend at Camp McDowell. During these three days, lay people and clergy share their experiences and perspective on a variety of topics related to the love of God, the Christian life, and Christian community. Through Cursillo we seek a deeper understanding of the teachings of Jesus and how we can serve Him. We work together to share God’s love and encourage each other to persevere in carrying out our Baptismal vows. Cursillo starts with a three day weekend, but the best is yet to come!
Cursillo weekends take place 5 times each year at Camp McDowell. Weekends are scheduled in February, April, June, September, and October. One of the best ways to decide if Cursillo might be right for you is to talk to someone who has attended a weekend! Let us know you’re interested and we’ll connect you.
Christ Episcopal Church is the oldest Episcopal church in northern Alabama, founded in 1828.
